1. I emptied George Goble’s ash tray when I was fifteen and to this day I still smell like a cigar.

VAN%202.JPG2. I own a 1978 Ford E-150 van that I bought brand new. I was at the dealership to take delivery between noon and 1:00pm on May 6, 1978. So I will always know exactly where I was and what I was doing at 12:34 5-6-78.

Drumming.jpg3. I have held my knife and fork like drumsticks since I took lessons in grade school, and that will never change.

4. Left shoe goes on before the right. No exceptions, ever. Especially in the shoe store.

5. I still have a piece of pencil lead embedded in my right hand since first grade. My father has one he got in the sixth grade. Apple doesn’t fall far, I guess.

6. My childhood doctor was Rupert von Trapp, of the family of Trapp singers from Austria. On his waiting room wall hung a little metal skunk with the inscription, “Why be nasty, when you can be a real stinker?”

6 ½. I would like to own the autographs of Louis Armstrong, Neil Armstrong, and Lance Armstrong.

7. It would really make my day to receive a comment from Mary Tyler Moore or Bobby Clarke.

How exactly did you get the pencil lead stuck in your hand Jeff lol?

That's really cool that you knew one of the Von Trapps!! I wonder if people ever broke out into song in his office.. :)

Thank you for the tag.

You've just made me realise that I too always put on the left shoe before the right without exception!

I'm a new reader to your blog, and I love it, btw

Hi Jeff,
Interesting information. Thanks for sharing!

I think I might pass out if I got a comment from Mary Tyler Moore! That would be probably the best comment ever. The only exception would be a comment from Elliott Yamin. That would probably tie for 1st place. :)

I have pencil lead in my left calf that is still there. A mishap while cleaning out my closet, when I was 12. Think we came from China?

Alison -- I made the mistake of having my hand flat on a cafeteria table when a fellow first grader decided to "jokingly" stab me with a sharpened #2 pencil. Some joke, huh? Rupert von Trapp was a wonderfully caring and attentive country doctor with a good sense of humor. He was never without a smile to greet his patients.

Caro -- Welcome, welcome! I'm glad you stopped by. I can't offer any logical explanation why the left shoe gets preferential treatment over the right one, But my world would come crashing down on top of me if this sequence was to be reversed!

Donna -- The van has only 70,000 original miles on it, and it will be 30 years old next spring. It gets started up and run regularly each month, but I never drive it anymore, mostly because it is 1500 miles away!

Cara -- Leo the Lion is the roaring MGM mascot that appears before or after MGM films. I always liked Mary Tyler Moore's parody of the lion: a meowing cat at the end of each MTM show. I just found out its name was Mimsie. While I never liked the Bobby Clarke-led Broad Street Bullies (Philadelphia Flyers) of the NHL in the '70s, I have to respect Clarke's accomplishments as a diabetic excelling on a world class level in his sport.

Mandy -- Shhush!! Not so loud, or we'll both have government hazmat teams breaking down our doors! ;^)

Alison,
It was cool having Rupert Von Trapp for a family doctor. He was a wonderful man. His common sense in medical care was brilliant, too. When my mom asked him what he gives his kids when they have colds he replied in his soft Austrian accent, “I give them a handkerchief.”
