Better Diabetes Through Steroids.
A crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, a play at the plate. Baseball is back, and that can mean only one thing.
Performance-enhancing drugs.
No, really, if not for steroids, juvenile diabetes would be all the poorer this first week of April. You see, former trainer to the “stars,” Brian McNamee, himself a diabetic, is auctioning a bevy of baseball items related to his dealings with Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, et al, to benefit his diabetes charity, Brian’s Buddies.
You might remember McNamee was at the center of one of the recent dog and pony shows in Washington, DC involving politicians trying to look important by getting to the bottom of the steroids issue in the major leagues. By some estimates, the proceeds from McNamee’s auctions, which are listed on eBay, could reach as high as six figures.
So bid well. And be ready for those last minute snipers.

Howdy Jeff, that's good for the charity and every penny makes a difference in the fight against Diabetes. I personally feel sort of weird about the stuff he's auctioning though, but hey maybe there's a huge novelty market out there for items from possible steroid users and their injectors.
At the end of that AP article you linked to where it says "Sorry, no syringes." I so thought they meant insulin syringes for a moment lol.
Alison -- I did a double-take at that last line, too!
It's funny, but there's almost no end to what people will spend money on: Elvis Presley's chewed bubble gum, Justin Timberlake's leftover French toast, Johnny Depp's old shirt.
Hopefully the auctions will generate lots of money and the charity will do good things with the cash.
I hope so. At least something good could come out of the debacle. It's interesting looking at what all the autographed Clemen's items are going for not just the McNamee stuff. Pretty sad how low some of his signed items are going for compared to someone like Jeter. The majority of the Derek Jeter stuff is in the couple hundred dollar range and a lot of the Clemens items are barely breaking $50. There are some signed baseballs on there just at the $25 mark. It's unfortunate.
