With the World Champion Boston Celtics already back in training at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, guard Ray Allen has more than just a title defense on his mind. You may recall that Allen's son, Walker, was diagnosed with diabetes during the NBA Finals earlier this year.

Here's what Allen and his wife, Shannon, had to say about dealing with an NBA championship, controlling Walker's blood sugar, and raising funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. (You may need to scoll down a little on the page.)

Here's a short piece about a small town doctor in New England. He once listened to my descriptions of constant thirst, drastic weight loss, and extreme fatigue, before making the "delightful" pronouncement, "I'd say you're diabetic."

It once was that in the time it took to do a blood test, I could shoot a bunch of pictures before a number appeared on my old, slow, brick-sized Ames Glucometer. Now, in the amount of time it took me to shoot this long-exposure nighttime image of the United Congregational Church in Little Compton, Rhode Island, I did a test, evaluated the result, and programed a correction bolus -- all before the shutter closed on the foggy mist that was rolling in.

Later, in the "digital darkroom," NancyTW suggested that I take some creative license.
